This 2½ HOUR workshop is Module 4 in a series of Syntropic workshops with Jim & Julia on their regenerative farm in Woombye. Seeds, Seedlings & Succession planting is for multi-crop regenerative backyard farming, where you’ll learn mapping, seed & seedling harvest, care & management, and Jim’s seed-raising tips.
Suitable for all levels.

PLUS: Community Planting to follow, from 3pm (free & kids welcome)

Syntropic Backyard Farming in 2 Parts
​You’ll benefit from Jim’s thirty years of farming at this 2 Part workshop and discover how to improve your soil, increase yields and save water in your own garden. Suitable for beginners and advanced gardeners alike.

Introduction Syntropic Farming 
Part 1 Introduction to Syntropics, and we build a system from scratch in an afternoon.
Date:  Sunday 1st October 1pm–5.00pm
Cost: $200

​PART 2
Introduction Syntropic Farming
Treeline management & Pruning. Compost & worms.
Part 2 is a more advanced inquiry into Treeline management and pruning for your food forest. We also dig into a bonus module on compost and worms.
Date: Sunday 8th October, 1.00pm-5.00pm
Cost: $200,

NOTE: It is recommended to complete Part 1 before Part 2 but not a requirement. Parts can be booked separately. Part 1 does not mean a commitment to Part 2.

Dress for all weathers, wear covered shoes, long-sleeved shirt, sun hat, mozzie protection and byo bottle of water (filtered rainwater available for refill). Vegan refreshments provided.

Cancellation policy: please give 24 hours notice to give us time to fill your place and we will transfer you to our next course. Cancellations under 24 hours notice will incur $50 fee to cover costs. ​​​

Walk & Talk Garden Tour (via potting shed and worm & compost systems)
2.30 pm    Building a Syntropic system
Setting System structure with Log Paths from scratch. 
Reset a system ready for planting. Role of cut and drop.
Intro to strata management & succession planting/mapping for horticulture
Activity 1 Chainsaw logs for paths
Activity 2 Digging one section of new system from scratch
Activity 3 Mapping and planting a diverse mixed crop

Role of Treelines, managing for strata (light) and succession (growth over time).
100 year planning. Planting to a Map. Treeline management and restoration.
Activity 1 Clean up established Treeline
Activity 2 Restoration of a Treeline.
Pruning Overview & important role, Moon phases, Time of year, Propogation. Activity 3 Prune demo and propogating prunings.
3.30 pm    Afternoon Tea
4.00 pm     6 Mapping & System Planning
Ecological Succession (Time) & Strata Planning (Space)
